About The Owner
Kelly Benbow, Certified Canine Behavior and Training Specialist

Kelly is the owner of Pawsitive Solutions Dog Training in Belton, MO which offers private consultations and group classes.  Kelly’s methods are based on positive reinforcement that is kind, gentle, and effective for both people and dogs.

She works with dogs that have behavioral problems as well as dogs that need to learn basic commands and household family manners.  She excels at problem-solving, helping owners develop pet-friendly strategies which include both management and reward-based training techniques.

While working with the veterinary community, animal shelters and rescue groups, she realized the number of pets that were being surrendered or euthanized due to preventable and often treatable behavior problems.  This was motivation for Kelly to learn how to help people and their dogs live in harmony.  She works with both the family and the dog to rectify this situation, because it is important to her that the dog becomes a part of the family.

In 1998 she was asked by animal trainer, Mike Reynolds of Man’s Best Friend, to become an associate trainer.  She gained a great deal of knowledge and experience working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments.  Kelly was introduced to the world of clicker training and she worked with dogs that were left for boarding and training as well as taught group classes and conducted private consultations.

In 2002, she attended Triple Crown Dog Academy in Austin, Texas and completed intensive training to become a Certified Canine Behavior and Training Specialist.  Once she returned from Texas, she opened Pawsitive Solutions Dog Training and still trains at Man’s Best Friend Kennel under her own operation.

Kelly continues to attend seminars and participate in educational training held throughout the nation.  She admires and uses many of the techniques from Patricia McConnell, PhD, CAAB; Terry Ryan; Sophia Yin MS, DVM; Jean Donaldson; Karen Pryor and Pamela Dennison.

She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.  She is also a founding member of KCDogTrainers.com – a group of local trainers that strive to provide the very best in positive reinforcement dog training.
